How Leaving My Successful Career in
Direct Sales Relates To YOU

A number of years ago, after returning from a direct sales company 10-day incentive trip to Paris, I reflected not only on all the joy I experienced on that trip but the even deeper joy I would feel by helping more women achieve the same level of success.

One of the first things I pondered was how I ever became a manager of a million-dollar direct sales unit. Let me take you back to the leader's meeting I attended, where I first set my sights on becoming a million-dollar sales leader.

At that meeting, the company president announced that the leaders of $750,000 sales units would go on a Caribbean Cruise, and that the leaders of $1,000,000 sales units would go on a cruise to Greece and Turkey.

Back when I lived in Germany, I met a man, who had just returned from Turkey. He painted the most unbelievable picture of his fascination with that country. When I heard that I could have the opportunity to go there, I was completely awe inspired.

Keep in mind that I was a new sales leader with this direct sales company, and the reasonable thing would have been to set my sights on something "more believable" than a Million-Dollar unit in my first full year as a manager. Fortunately I had already learned to adopt the following mantra: "Unreasonable Requests Get Unreasonable Results!"

You see, if you always ask what is reasonable, you always get the more predicted, the more usual, reasonable results.

Understand this - I KNEW it was TOTALLY UNREASONABLE to think that my new sales unit could be a Million Dollar Sales Unit. However, I BELIEVED they would be.

Belief leads to action (remember that). My course of action was to return from my first leaders' meeting and help as many people in my sales unit get what they wanted from their direct sales business. That year, three women from my sales unit became leaders of their own units. And my sales unit didn't sell One Million; it sold 1.4 Million!

Now I resigned from that direct sales business a few years ago (and yes, I left plenty of residual money on the table when I did) because my dream has expanded from working with a limited number of individuals in my sales unit to working with an unlimited number of individuals in the direct sales industry.

That means my dream now is to see YOU tap your potential.

I believe you are ready to tap it; if you weren't, you wouldn't be reading this letter. I also believe that as you take the step you are sure you cannot take and tap into your own potential, your unit (even if you have yet to start building it) will truly EXPLODE!

Yes, I believe that just like me, you can be the leader of a Million-Dollar sales unit in your direct sales company. If you are wondering how, here are my first suggestions:

Step 1-

"Tammy says": Give yourself permission to take two GIANT steps forward!

Please notice that "Tammy" doesn't say to give two GIANT excuses why you can't go forward. I looked up the word "excuse" today and found this interesting definition: to release someone from an undertaking.

I have to ask you, why would you ever release yourself from undertaking your vision or dream?

Perhaps you release yourself when your vision seems an unreasonable request -

"Oh, I'm already $3,000 behind on winning that special incentive, and I'll never make it up during the holiday months..."

or

"I' haven't even recruited one person, so there's no way I can be a leader for the next leadership meeting..."

Take two GIANT steps forward even when it seems unlikely to achieve your goal? TOTALLY UNREASONABLE.

But you see, Unreasonable Requests Get Unreasonable Results!

I hope that like me, you will now think long and hard before ever again releasing yourself from your dreams.

Step 2-

Tammy says: Believe before you see!

For years and years now we've been taught to trust our eyes.

Consider for a moment that your eyes could be leading you astray. For example, your eyes testify that the sun rises in the east and sets in the west. But the actual truth is that the sun doesn't rise at all. The earth revolves around the sun, which creates an appearance of the sun rising and setting, but the sun does not rise, nor does it set.

Years ago when I lived in Evergreen, Colorado, I knew a man who gave me an insight to creating what you desire - you simply decide to temporarily suspend disbelief. In other words, instead of spending time doubting, decide to hold off on that and just try believing. By suspending disbelief you can then dispel disbelief all together.

Think what would happen if you suspended disbelief in yourself for just one month or even one week! I don't think you'd ever be the same.

When you begin believing before you see it... Well, can you guess what I'm going to say?

Believe it before you see it? TOTALLY UNREASONABLE.

But remember, Unreasonable Requests Get Unreasonable Results!

Step 3

Tammy says: Invest in yourself before you can afford to!

Just last week I had an unexpected and amazing opportunity to play a new game called "Residual Income" that simulates starting a direct selling business part-time. The goal of the game is to build a large residual income from your direct selling business so that you can retire from your current job.

The facilitator of the game told me, "It was easy for me to see why you were so successful at direct sales; you knew exactly what to do to get your residual income soaring quickly."

So are you curious what I did? I invested in personal development right from the start, while my opponents chose to go prospecting. Of course prospecting seems like the first logical step, doesn't it? And of course that is the action taken by most new consultants and seasoned consultants needing to increase their business.

But going prospecting before you develop your skills can be costly.

My opponents in this game kept choosing to go prospecting while I kept choosing to personally develop my skills. Within a few turns everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, in my business was going well, while my opponents' businesses were struggling along.

If you decided today that you wanted to become a lawyer (presuming you're not already one), what would you have to do to accomplish that goal? Unlike in the movie, "O Brother Where Art Thou" (if you haven't seen it, you'll miss the joke here), you can't just buy a sign to hang on your door. No, you need to invest in an education. And you would pay a pretty price for that education in both time and money.

The previous scenario is true for almost any profession. Even hair stylists have to invest money and time to get certified, and they even invest yearly to attend conferences in order to keep up with new techniques. So why do we think it should be any different to be successful in the direct sales industry?

The way to improve the results from all your activities is to improve your skills.

Once you do that; the rest is a piece of cake.

Invest in your business even before you start to make money? TOTALLY UNREASONABLE.

But remember, Unreasonable Requests Get Unreasonable Results!
